Turnwise Labs

How Turnwise is built.

The flexible pad is approximately 2 mm thick, with no hard components on the sleeping surface. Six layers combine a protective cover, environmental sensors, and the pressure-sensing matrix.

01

TPU top cover

Medical-grade, waterproof, wipeable TPU provides an electrically insulating surface beneath the bedsheet.

02

Temperature & moisture sensors

Thin, flat sensors monitor temperature and detect wetness from incontinence.

03

Conductive column strips

36 soft conductive fabric strips run from the head of the bed to the foot.

04

Velostat pressure layer

A thin, pressure-sensitive film becomes more conductive as pressure increases.

05

Conductive row strips

72 soft conductive fabric strips run across the bed. Each row-column intersection forms a pressure-sensing point.

06

TPU bottom cover

A waterproof, electrically insulating cover includes a non-slip surface against the mattress.

Bonded sensing layers

The sensing layers are bonded to hold the Velostat flat and limit crinkling or shifting as patients move.

Removable sensor assembly

The cover is sealed on three sides and closes with a waterproof zipper on the fourth. The sensor assembly slides out for repair or replacement, and the cover can be cleaned or replaced separately.

ELECTRONICS AT THE FOOT OF THE BED

The electronics are housed in a small pod away from the sleeping surface. The pod reads the matrix and sends pressure data to caregivers’ devices.
